Just because you CAN make something using eggs as the main ingredient, doesn’t mean that you should. Seriously. If our beautiful hens saw some of the wild creations you humans have been concocting using their eggs, they’d be disgusted. Whenever I see these dishes in the wild, I can’t help but think, “whoever made this was so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should.” That’s a Jurassic Park reference by the way.
A common icon for farm life, it would be unusual to meet someone who doesn’t know what a chicken is. We’ve been taught a lot about chickens through pop culture, school, and old wives tales. But how much of that information relayed to our younger selves is accurate? Let’s find out.
From restaurants to local grocery stores and elementary school cafeterias, our eggs can be found in many locations around Western Montana. Eating locally grown and raised products is important to the economy and the health of the community which is why we love when local schools contact us about using our eggs in their cafeterias.
When it comes to raising chickens, we keep things pretty simple. We believe that oftentimes the simplest option is the best option. It’s one of the many reasons we don’t cage our animals, we don’t use antibiotics and when we cook with our eggs, we don’t need to add a bunch of fancy ingredients. We hear time and time again about how exceptional our eggs perform in the kitchen and how remarkable they taste. We wanted to share some videos of your favorite television chefs cooking a dish that we all cherish: the classic scrambled egg!
If you haven’t already heard, we recently got a new flock of baby chicks! It’s hard not to be excited about our new brood. Just look at this cute fluff! It’s important to us that we provide the same high quality of care for our chicks as we do for our laying hens. With proper care, they’ll grow up healthy and happy. That’s why we take extra precautions with feeding, handling, controlling their environment and diligently checking in on the chicks. To commemorate this exciting time for us, here are some fun facts on raising chicks.
Eggs are a household staple and very common breakfast food for many United States citizens and people around the world. Even though eggs are a common and familiar item to many people, there are some major myths that exist about them! Let’s dive into four major egg myths and the truth behind them.
It’s no secret we love breakfast. It’s our favorite meal of the day. Scrambled, over-easy, poached, hard-boiled: we’ll take our eggs any-which way. And while a protein-packed meal of eggs each breakfast from now until forever would be just fine by us, we occasionally like to add a side or two. Bacon? Yup. Toast? Sure thing. And beverages? You bet’chya. Coffee, chocolate milk, tea, and maybe a tall glass of OJ (though finding a Montana based orange juice company was pretty tough).
For all the grill enthusiasts out there breakfast can be a meal that keeps you inside and frustrated. Why shouldn’t you be able to fire up the coals at any time of day? Well, luckily grilling the day’s most important meal isn’t as hard as you think. Because, yes, you can grill eggs!
We know a lot about chickens. In order to keep our hens healthy and happy, we have to be up to date on what keeps them that way! As a bonus, better treatment leads to better tasting eggs. In honor of our chickens, we decided to share with you all some facts that we’ve learned about chickens and eggs since proudly operating our local Montana farm.
When visiting Montana many tourists will opt to explore Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park and the road in between the two. While the drive between both parks does a great job showcasing the beautiful scenery of Montana, the Anaconda-Pintler Scenic Highway, just a jaunt off of Interstate 90, is a drive that really unearths the Treasure State. Join us for the drive.
Across the world, eggs are an integral part of many meals. We’ve talked about chickens around the world and how to make a true Montana breakfast, but what about egg dishes in other countries? Let’s take a look!
In the United States, many people simply see chickens as a means of food, but there are many countries and cultures around the world that put a special emphasis on this creature. Here are some examples!
Our eggs are so fresh, you can taste the freedom! We understand how important it is to keep our hens happy and healthy, and how proper treatment of our poultry affects the quality of the eggs laid. Why don’t we check in with Lola and see what her day-to-day is like.
